9 Tips & The Secret To A Good Night's Sleep Is A Clear Conscience ...

For those who are nocturnally challenged no remedy works better than a clear conscience and a good bed! I?m a bad sleeper and I?ve tried all sorts of tricks and tips spruiked by health professionals, fitness gurus, holistic practitioners, weekend newspaper lift-outs, you name it. But when it comes to actually getting some quality shut-eye after a stressful day the only thing that has ever worked for me is to clear my conscience. Knowing that I have done everything I can in the day to fulfil my responsibilities to my family, friends and the environment, means that I can genuinely feel that I deserve a good night?s sleep. I don?t have things gnawing away at my conscience, I don?t toss and turn, worry and obsess. I have tried nearly everything suggested to me to improve my sleep.

There are the general rules that doctors tell you to follow which are to:

1. Buy a good mattress ? invest in this ? don?t skimp ? it will be something you use everyday for the next 10 years

2. Exercise during the day

3. Don?t drink alcohol or stimulants at night, or any liquid after 8pm.

4. There is the completely dark room suggestion

5. No brain stimulating activity after 9pm

6. Lavender under your pillow

7. A handful of nuts and seeds before bed,

8. Meditation

9. Fresh airflow.

All of these things can help, but they don?t always, sometimes never. I haven?t tried hypnosis and apparently that can have positive effects but maybe that it for a similar reason. The hypnosis is a clearing away of your conscience, a cleaning of the slate, I just doubt whether it lasts.

So my nightly ritual is :

To sit down in a quiet place an hour or so before I plan to be asleep. I ask myself, ?Are you satisfied with your day today? Do you feel you have done everything within your power to contribute to the people in your life and to the environment? Can you say that your conscience is clear? If the answer is no, then I think about where the problems are and how I might fix them. If it?s something I can deal with straight away then I always do. It might mean a phone call or writing an email or going to talk to my son about his school work or my wife about a financial issue. If I can?t deal with it straight away I write it down as something I need to deal with as soon as possible. Then, without fail, it?s blissfully off to the sleepy dream cloud for me. The greatest thing about a good night?s sleep is that you know you are at your best, your healthiest the next day. Your body feels strong and able to fight of viruses and infections, your head feels clear and able to tackle difficult issues, and you feel? you are giving life your all. It is really worth trying this for anyone who has tried everything else and still wrestles through the night, clear your conscience and drift off to peaceful sleep.
