Who to know and where to go?my latest favourites and musings ...

I have been trying to stay strong on my shopping cleanse that I committed to at the beginning of January. The shopping cleanse rule was that I could not spend money on clothes and items, but only on groceries, food and things that I can experience. For one month only, this was my task. I held on pretty strong until I saw the purse from Andrea Wong in Much and Little. That was my only break from the shopping cleanse, (I still have a long way to go) but I have been enjoying my ?experiences? lately. Here are some of my favourites.

1. All natural facial at Breathe Spa Vancouver. I know I have mentioned Breathe Spa in my last favourites, but I just came back from a facial this week and tried their new line that is from Italy and is all natural. The line is called Comfort Zone (Davines is the parent company), it has the most beautiful scent of cedar, vanilla and orange that is really subtle. The facial is 2 hours long including a leg and arm massage for $140 at the most beautiful spa in the city. Treat yourself.

2. Small group Iyengar class at Mount Pleasant Yoga. Deb is the owner/instructor and has the most beautiful, fully equipped studio in her home. Her winter session just began and will run until mid-April. I hadn?t done Iyengar yoga before, but I love it. Here is her website:

3. Frozen cheese buns from the Gluten Free Epicurean. These buns cook up perfectly into crunchy golden-topped-soft-cheesy-middle buns. Let them defrost for 20 minutes and then place them in the oven. I love to buy these when we have guests over. And the best part! No swollen gluten belly afterwards. I couldn?t find a website, but it?s located on 15th between Fraser and Kingsway.

4. Working out with Simone from Eat Play Love. Simone is one of my favourite people on earth, her spirit ignites all those around her. She is authentically one of the most kind and generous people I know. She tricks me into working way harder than I expect to, all with a smile on her face. The best way to spend time with Simone is to attend one of her ?play cations?, ?which are morning, day or weekend trips dedicated to fitness and camaraderie.

5. Donating used toys, kitchen items and clothes. I love making space in the home and giving to people and organizations that are in need of quality items. There are a number of these bins around the city. In particular I like to give to the Developmental Disabilities boxes because they accept all of these items.

6. Enjoying the sun in Vancouver parks. We live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, especially when the sun is out. Every few blocks we have little parks that have so much character. I love to take the kids and dogs to the park. The dogs love all the smells and exploring new spaces. On dry days you can even rollerblade in Stanley Park! We are really blessed to have gotten all this sunshine this month! I hope it continues.

7. Small group dinners with girlfriends. The women in my life are so inspiring on every level. They are open, truthful, strong and tender, smart, generous and creative. I have a couple of circles of friends that get together to have potlucks to share good food and chat.

One of my friends Rachelle has an incredible business called ?Beyond Nourished?. Check out her website and the services she offers. She is a warrior trying to heal the world through the power of food and she is here to share her knowledge.
